Donation pages can sometimes be targets for spam or card testing (bots). If you notice an uptick in fraudulent activity on your Donation page, enabling reCAPTCHA can restrict it. Fraudulent activity can be identified by one or several of the following:

  • Excessive declines submitted with illegitimate information

  • Excessive declines submitted under $5

  • Excessive declines submitted in a very short amount of time

  • Payments refunded because the cards were reported as stolen

To prevent this from happening in excess, you can enable a reCAPTCHA on your page.

Enable reCAPTCHA on your Page

Pro Tip: reCAPTCHA is a great feature to deter bot testers from using your page to submit fraudulent donations. This setting will not inconvenience legitimate donors. We do not require any participation from the donor for a standard donation to be submitted.

Instead, if a submission is determined to have an unacceptable fraud score, it will be blocked. This will quickly deter bot testing in particular.

  • From the Pages tab in the top menu bar, select the pencil icon under the page you want to edit

  • Hover over the Settings tab, and select Basic Setup

  • Scroll down, and click the Enable reCAPTHCA checkbox if this option isn't already selected

  • Click Save Now in the upper-right corner of your page to save your changes. Click Publish to publish these changes to your live page

FAQs

What if a fraudulent attempt is successfully charged?

This is rare. In addition to GivingFuel, the processing gateway you've partnered with also has precautions in place to detect fraud. But if there is a fraudulent attempt that is successfully charged, we recommend refunding the transactions immediately to prevent the card owner from issuing a chargeback.
