Capture Leads With a Subscriber Popup and Follow Up Automatically

Add an email sign-up pop-up to your donation page, automatically tag new subscribers by the page they signed up on, and automatically send follow-up emails to visitors who subscribe

Written by Maddy

On GivingFuel, the Subscriber Pop-up invites prospective donors to share their email address so your organization can stay in touch. When you pair it with a Dynamic Email, GivingFuel automatically sends a follow-up message to new subscribers, giving you another opportunity to share your mission and invite them to support it.

You can also add a tag to your pop-up so every new subscriber is automatically tagged with the page they subscribed on. This makes it easy to send targeted Email Blasts and Drip Campaigns to your subscribers. In this article, we’ll cover how to turn on and customize your Subscriber Pop-up, set up a Dynamic Email for new subscribers, and manage your leads.

Warning: The Subscriber Pop-up only collects email addresses. It does not send any emails on its own. To follow up with new subscribers, you must also create a Dynamic Email using the After Subscribe trigger. Click here to learn how.

Pro Tip: You can use the preview options to review how your pop-up and success message appears to your visitors.

Automatically Tag New Subscribers

By adding a tag to your Subscriber Pop-up, GivingFuel will automatically tag every new subscriber and show the page they subscribed on. This lets you see exactly where each lead came from and reach them with Email Blasts and Drip Campaigns.

Note: Tags are only added to people who subscribe after the tag is added to your pop-up. Subscribers who joined before you added the tag will not be tagged automatically.

  • From the Pages screen, click the page you want to edit

  • Hover your mouse over the Promote tab in the top menu bar

  • Select Subscriber Pop-up from the dropdown

  • Scroll down to the Tag Leads section below your pop-up settings

  • To add an existing tag, click the Tag Leads field and select the auto tag from the dropdown

  • To create a new tag, click Create New Tag, enter your tag name, and click the green checkmark

  • Repeat these steps to add more tags, if desired

  • Click Save Pop-up

  • Click Save Now in the upper-right corner of your page to save your changes. Click Publish to publish these changes to your live page

Note: All “Subscribed on Page” auto tags in your account will appear in the list of tags. If you select a tag already used on another page, subscribers from both pages will receive that same tag.

To track subscribers separately, create a unique auto tag for each page.

Pro Tip: Once an auto tag is created, these tags are managed under the Contacts page. Click here to learn how to rename a tag, turn the auto tag on or off, or change which page the tag applies to.

Note: Inactive tags on your pop-up display a red circle icon. Hover over the tag to view more information about the tag. New subscribers won’t receive the auto tag until you reactivate the tag.

Create a Dynamic Email for New Subscribers

Once your pop-up is live, the next step is setting up the email that follows up with new subscribers. When you set up this email, GivingFuel will automatically send your subscribers an email with the content you add.

Send an Email Blast or Drip Campaigns to Your Tagged Subscribers

When you add a tag to your Subscriber Pop-up, GivingFuel automatically applies it to each new subscriber, helping you identify which page they subscribed on. You can then select that tag as your audience when sending an Email Blast or Drip Campaign, so your message only reaches your subscribers.

Manage Your Leads

Once someone subscribes to your organization, GivingFuel saves the email as a Lead in your GivingFuel account. You can view all Leads under the Contacts tab.

Pro Tip: GivingFuel creates customer leads in these situations:

  • Subscribed: When someone subscribes through the Subscriber Pop-up, GivingFuel saves their email address as a contact

  • Abandoned lead: When someone enters their billing email but does not complete the order, GivingFuel saves their email address as a lead

  • Imported Contacts: When a user imports contacts, they can choose to import their contacts as leads

  • To view all of the leads, click the Contacts tab from the main menu bar on your account

  • Under the Filters tab on the left-hand side, click Contact Type

  • Select Leads

  • Edit, view, or delete these leads as desired

Pro Tip: If you are automatically tagging new subscribers, you can see all leads who subscribed to a specific page.

To do this, go to the Contacts tab and expand the Tags field on the left hand side. From there, select the tag(s) you want to view. You can then see all contacts associated with this tag.

Note: Subscriber leads will only save the entered email, not any of the other details about the contact. The Contact will not display the page where the lead subscribed unless you automatically tag new subscribers for that page.

Donor Experience

  • When a visitor lands on your page, the pop-up appears after 5 seconds

  • The visitor can enter their email address and submit, or close the pop-up to continue browsing

  • If the visitor enters their email and joins the list, they will see your Success Message

  • If you set up a Dynamic Email, the visitor receives your email based on the timing you selected

FAQs

Can I add or remove a subscriber auto tag from a contact manually?

No. Tags added through the Subscriber Pop-up are auto tags, so GivingFuel applies them automatically and they can't be added to or removed from a contact by hand. This keeps your tag lists accurate.
