Text to Give makes it easy for donors to support your organization by simply texting a donation amount. The first time they give, they’ll be directed to your donation page to complete their gift and securely save their card. After that, donors can give in seconds by texting an amount, and the system will automatically charge their saved card on file. It’s a fast, convenient way to encourage repeat giving and increase the donations your organization receives.

Text to Give is billed at the same rates as our standard text messaging feature. Customers on GivingFuel All-In can use this feature at no additional cost. Customers on GivingFuel Starter and GivingFuel Pro can select between our Basic Plan and Super Sender Plan.

Sign up for Text Messaging
Before you can enable Text to Give, GivingFuel requires all customers to go through brand verification. Carriers require this brand verification to prevent spam.
From the Pages screen, click Text Messaging from the top menu bar
Select the plan you'd like to sign up for
Note: If you have not yet published a page on your account, it will ask you to do so prior to setting up the SMS feature.
You will be taken through the sign-up process in order to be approved for your 10-digit phone number.
Submit your personal information to authorize yourself. If there are urgent issues with your text messaging service, this is who is contacted.
Once submitted, you will see a screen that lets you know your application is under review. This review process can take up to two weeks to receive approval by the carriers.
Select Your Text to Give Number
Once your application is approved, you can reserve a number for each of your giving pages.
Note: Each GivingFuel page is assigned its own phone number. If you’d like to enable Text to Give on multiple pages, we recommend choosing a unique phone number for each page in your account.
From the Pages screen, click the pencil icon on the page you want to edit
Click the Text to Give tab
Click Set up Giving Number
Select a phone number of your choice
Pro Tip: When selecting a phone number, you can search by the area code, the digits it contains, the digits it ends with, or by the phrase. Simply enter the numbers or word you'd like included, and the system will display available numbers. Below is a breakdown of each search filter.
Area Code: This option allows you to find phone numbers that start with a specific area code. You can enter up to 3 digits in this field
Contains: This option allows you to find a phone number that contains the sequence of digits you enter. You can enter up to 10 digits in this field
Ends With: This option allows you to find a phone number that ends with the sequence of digits you enter. You can up to 10 digits in this field
Phrase: This option allows you to find a phone number that contains a phrase you enter. You can enter a phrase with up to 7 letters
Donor Experience
Your donors can use the Text to Give feature to quickly give to your organization on their phone.
On the donor's first text to your phone number, they enter the giving amount they want to give. The system will then send the donor a link to your giving page, where they enter their donation and card information. After they submit this donation, they will see the confirmation page with their gift information, and a confirmation text thanking them for their gift
On subsequent gifts, donors can text the amount they want to give. The system will automatically charge their saved card on file, and send them a confirmation text thanking them for their gift
Pro Tip: Donors can also manage their donations through text. Donors can send the following keywords to manage their donations.

RESET: This keyword can be used to clear out the donor's existing account and start over. The donor must text in a new amount to start a new account

STOP: This keyword can be used to stop the number from texting the donor ever again
START: This keyword can be used if the donor accidentally replied STOP and they want to resume text messages

What is the best way to test my Text-to-Give number?
To test your Text to Give number, we recommend using a published page connected to a real payment processor. Make a test donation of at least $5 with a real credit to confirm that your number is working and processing funds as expected.
Once the donation is completed, you can quickly refund the donation by texting REFUND.

Text to Give relies on mobile carriers and requires a sufficient cellular signal. Even with strong WiFi, donors must have carrier signal for their donation to process.
All major mobile carriers use fraud and spam detection algorithms. T-Mobile and Sprint appear to be the most aggressive in spam blocking. If donors report issues completing a donation, they are most likely using one of these networks. AT&T and Verizon, who hold 70% of the market share, have not shown any reported issues.
We continue to work with carriers to ensure reliable message delivery, though some donors may still experience complications.

Because the GivingFuel 10 digit Text-To-Give system is built into our platform, donors can easily make follow-up donations and manage their donations through text. Most short code platforms don't offer this level of donor experience and are generally best suited for one-time event donations. However, short codes can sometimes be more reliable at bypassing mobile carrier spam and fraud filters.
