There are two primary ways to edit a recurring donation in GivingFuel! If you have full user permissions, we recommend using the Contacts tab to edit a donors recurring donations, as this allows you to view and edit all of a donor's recurring donation activity at once.

If you have limited user permissions we recommend editing the recurring donation from the Donations tab.

FAQs

Can you update the CVV or expiration date without having to re-enter the full credit card information again?

To update the CVV and billing information on file, the system will require the admin to add the full credit card information again.

If a donor originally chose to donate a set number of payments, can they later change their donation to unlimited?

If a donor originally chose to donate a set number of payments, the system will only process that set number of payments, and cannot be changed to unlimited later. To change the donation to unlimited recurring donations, we recommend creating a new recurring donation.

If a recurring donor's card expires, but their card number stays the same, will GivingFuel automatically update their card's expiration date?

Webconnex Payments, our in-house payment processor, has an auto-card updater feature. When a donor's card expires but the card number stays the same, the expiration date is automatically updated. This ensures your organization continues receiving recurring donations without interruption, and removes the need for your team to follow up with these donors for new card details. This feature is automatically enabled, and available at no additional cost.

This feature is not available when using a custom payment processor. If you are currently using a custom payment processor and are interested in learning more about Webconnex Payments, click here.

I had a recurring donation decline. Will GivingFuel attempt to run the card again?

When a card is declined on a recurring donation, our system will attempt to run the card again two more times every other day. After a card is declined, our system sends an email to the donor with instructions with a link inviting them to update their credit card details. This link expires in 72 hours.

After the credit card is declined a total of three times, the system will then attempt to run the card again next month. It will repeat the same pattern, attempting to run the card every other day for another three attempts. If the donor still does not update their card by the time the 6th attempt is made, the recurring donation will be permanently disabled. A new recurring donation would then have to be established through the donation page at this point.

Example: Assume that a donor has a recurring donation that processes on the 5th of the month. If the donation is declined on January 5th, our system will attempt to re-process the donation on January 7th. If the donation is declined on January 7th, our system will attempt to re-process the donation on January 9th.

If the donation declines on January 9th, our system will attempt to process the donation next month on February 5th. If the donation is declined on Feburary 5th, it will repeat the same schedule as the previous month, attempting to re-process the donation on February 7th and February 9th respectively.

Once the donation fails a sixth time in a row on February 9th, the recurring donation then will be automatically disabled. If the donor wants to continue giving, they will need to set up a new recurring donation at that point.
